Meliah Rage is an American power and thrash metal band that was formed in 1987 in Boston , Massachusetts .

history

The band was formed in 1987 by guitarist Anthony Nichols. A short time later, singer Mike Munro, guitarist Jim Koury, drummer Stuart Dowie and bassist Jesse Johnson joined the band. Together they recorded a demo that same year, which contained three songs. Through this they came to a contract with Epic Records , although they had only played eight concerts so far. The recordings for the first album called Kill to Survive followed and a video for the song Beginning of the End was recorded, which was broadcast worldwide on MTV . In 1989 a three-month tour through the USA followed with Metal Church . An appearance in Detroit was recorded and released that same year as a live EP called Live Kill . In the same year further appearances followed together with Slayer , Testament , Nuclear Assault , Manowar and Overkill .

In 1990 the band went back to the studio to record the second album Solitary Solitude , for which a music video for the song The Witching was produced and broadcast on Headbangers Ball on MTV. A five week tour through Europe followed . Due to the dwindling interest in Thrash Metal in the early 1990s, the band broke up for a short time, but got back together a short time later. The new member was drummer Sully Erna . They recorded a few demos and played a few more concerts until they broke up again.

In 1996 the band got together again and signed a contract with Backstreet Records . The next album, Death Valley Dream, followed in the same year . In 2002 the band signed a contract with Screaming Ferret Records . On the label they released the demos under the title Unfinished Business , which they had recorded a few years earlier with Sully Erna. The label expressed interest in recording an album with new material with the band.

Singer Mike Munro had since become a father, so he was too busy to continue his job, and was replaced by his friend Paul Souza. The album Barely Human was released in 2004 and Meliah Rage performed at smaller festivals in the United States. In addition, a video was shot for the theme song by Barely Human , the song was also heard in the US series The Shield . In 2006 another album was released with The Deep and Dreamless Sleep . In 2007 Darren Lourie joined the band as the new bass player and Meliah Rage toured the United States for three weeks with Metal Church. The band also played at the Locobazooka Festival in Massachusetts as the inaugural band for Alice in Chains , Heaven and Hell , Queensrÿche and Alice Cooper . A video for the song Undefeated was released later that year .

Original singer Mike Munro rejoined the band in 2008 and recording began on the next album Masquerade , which was released in 2009. The guest vocalist was Ronny Munroe, singer from Metal Church, in the song Last Rites . In 2010 the band performed with Anvil at the House of Blues in Boston. Mike Munro left the band a little later to devote himself entirely to his work in the church.

Paul Souza became the band's singer again and together they recorded the album Dead to the World , on which Halo of Flies is a cover version of a piece by Alice Cooper. The song was also included on the remixed version of the 2004 album Barely Human . Dead to the World was released in 2011 on Screaming Ferret Records / Metro City Records . In December 2010, the band signed a deal with Metal on Metal Records . The band continued recording Dead to the World from January to May 2011, and the album was released in July. This was followed by appearances in Europe , including at the Headbangers Open Air in Germany .

style

The band plays a mix of power and thrash metal. The pieces have a melodic part. In addition to classic shouts , clear vocals are also used.
