Katharina Migerka
Katharina Migerka (born December 8, 1844 in Tilsit as Katharina Kämpffat , † September 20, 1922 in Graz ) was an Austrian writer and sociologist .
Life
Catherine Migerka came as the wife of Imperial Royal Hofrathes Franz Migerka first to Brno , then in 1872 to Vienna , where her husband was first appointed to the Department of Commerce and in 1883 the Central factory inspector. She was the mother of the writers Helene Migerka and Else Migerka .
Soon after the death of her husband in 1915, she moved with both daughters to Graz, where they and their children stayed until the end of their lives.
Work and action
Together with her husband, Migerka founded the first domestic economics schools in Vienna in the 1870s and 80s (Migerka schools) for training maids and in 1894 the "Aid Association for Apprenticeship Girls and Young Workers", which offered evening home economics courses and had a job placement, a Sunday Girls' day nursery, a home for orphaned girls, and other charities.
As an author, Migerka u. a. Travel letters from her trip to America and worked on various popular educational publications.
