The Catholic School Salvator (short: KSS ) is a high school in the Berlin district Waidmannslust of the Reinickendorf district .
history
The high school was founded on February 8, 1947 by Sr. Luminosa Wimmer as an all-girls high school. On November 4th of the same year school operations began with 70 pupils. Most of the teachers were religious . In January 1949, the French city commander Jean Ganeval approved a previously submitted application from Sr. Luminosa to continue the school for all grades, from first to twelfth grade. In 1953 the secondary school was expanded to include a secondary school branch. The first Abitur at the Salvator School was passed by nine students in February 1954. In December 1955, the school was given the status of a “state-approved private school ”.
On June 10, 1964, the primary school was inaugurated by Archbishop Alfred Bengsch . Almost four years later, in January 1971, the primary school opened a branch in the nearby Märkisches Viertel . Parents of the Salvator School founded the Friends' Association in December 1969. In 1970 the Salvatorians handed the school over to the diocese of Berlin . At the end of 1974 the first boys passed their Abitur at the former girls' school. According to a survey of parents in August 1977, one Saturday in the month was declared free of classes. Around 87% of the parents were in favor of this. From 1985 Saturday classes were completely abolished.
On June 15, 1980, the founder of the Salvator School, Sister Luminosa Wimmer, died. In March 1987 a group of the " Community of Christian Life " (GCL) was founded. The GCL is an important part of the Salvator School to this day.
In 2005 the Big Band of the Salvator School released a music CD in collaboration with Carsten Gerlitz via Greenlandmusic.
