Jörg Waschinski

Jörg Waschinski (* 1966 in Berlin ) is a German opera singer ( countertenor / soprano ) who is one of the internationally best-known singers of his vocal range.

Life

Jörg Waschinski studied at the University of Music in Berlin. He first began to study church music , but then switched to singing . He attended master classes with Barbara Schlick and Peter Schreier . He also worked with the tenor Scot Weir on a regular basis . In 1996, Waschinski was the winner of the International Johann Heinrich Schmelzer Competition in Melk an der Donau and also received the special prize at the National Singing Competition in Berlin.

Since 1998, Waschinski has had engagements at various opera houses , both as a permanent member of the ensemble and as a guest singer for various productions. Waschinski sang at the Stadttheater St. Gallen, the Bonn Opera , the Hanover State Theater and the Mainz State Theater .

In 1998, Waschinski sang the title role in the opera Xerxes by Georg Friedrich Händel in St. Gallen . In the 2000/2001 season he sang the role of Nerone in the opera L'incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi with great success at the Hanover State Theater . From 2000 he sang the role of David in the oratorio Saul by Georg Friedrich Händel at the Bonn Opera and in 2001 also at the Mainz State Theater.

The magazine Opernwelt voted Waschinski as the best young singer in the 1999/2000 season. For his interpretation of the roles of Saul and David , he was again awarded the title of best singer of the season by Opernwelt magazine in the 2000/2001 season.

Waschinski sings a wide-ranging repertoire in operas and concerts, ranging from the baroque to the modern . In 2003 he assumed the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau , the role of Anna I in the ballet with song Seven Deadly Sins by Kurt Weill , in which he, together with the dancer Gregory Seyffert occurred. In 2004 he sang the title role of Peri in the oratorio Das Paradies und die Peri by Robert Schumann at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf . In 2008 Jörg Waschinski performed at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf in the world premiere of the opera The Fashion by Giorgio Battistelli in the role of the male supermodel Tarquin .

His current solo concert program (as of 2009) is dedicated to arias and songs by the singer Farinelli .

As a singer, Waschinski participated in several radio recordings and CD recordings . The recording of the oratorio Giob by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf received the German Record Critics' Prize in 2002 .
