The Lada Silhouette (VAZ-2116) is a concept vehicle from the manufacturer AwtoWAS , which was presented at the Moscow Motor Show 2005. The model was intended to replace the Lada classic models derived from the Fiat 124 , known in Western Europe as the Lada Nova . For this project, AwtoWAS developed a new platform with front-wheel drive and a two-liter gasoline engine. In addition, diesel engines and automatic transmissions should be developed and produced for this purpose. The future vehicle should be larger, more comfortable and designed to be of higher quality inside and out than the classic models. In addition, it should be so sure that it would achieve 13 out of 16 possible points of the EuroNCAP. In addition to the sedan , station wagon and hatchback prototypes that had not been presented before were also developed.

Lada originally planned the project under President Wladimir Kadannikov in cooperation with GM-AvtoVAZ . A first series VAZ-2116 of 23 prototypes was built. The prototype of a new series of 100 vehicles was presented at the Interauto-2007 exhibition. These had their own completely unique interior (previously from the Lada Kalina ). After a realization with GM-AvtoVAZ became increasingly unlikely, they worked with Porsche on the technology , as with the Lada Samara and Lada 110 models . At the same time it was possible to reduce the drag coefficient (C w ) from 0.36, which was 0.32 in the prototype, to 0.33. This was made possible by a wind tunnel newly installed at AwtoWAS in a Volga plant.
