The Lada Ока-2 (type designation also WAS-1121 , Russian ВАЗ-1121 , English transcription VAZ-1121 ) was a small car that was developed by the Russian automaker AwtoWAS as a concept vehicle (originally as the successor to the Lada Oka ).

Development history

The first version of the Ока-2 was a prototype that was shown at the Moscow International Motor Show in 1998 . However, it was not developed further.

The second version of the Ока-2 was shown in 2003 as an internal project WAS-1121 at the Moscow International Motor Show, equipped as a luxury version with the four-cylinder petrol engine (1596 cm³ / 60 kW) from the Lada 110 , 175 / 70R14 tire size, electric windows, central locking and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors. However, there was also an economy version with the two - cylinder four-stroke in - line engine (750 cm³) from the Lada Oka, but with an electronic injection system.

Series development began in spring 2005 with various test runs as Ока-2, which were completed in 2007. According to AvtoWAS President Vladimir Kadannikow, the Oka-2 was originally supposed to go into series production as part of the replacement of the classic models, but this was prevented by the financial problems of AwtoWAS. Thus the Ока-2 project was buried, although some Russian third-party suppliers made inquiries about a possible license production. For example, the mayor of Moscow at the time, Yuri Luschkow, wanted to have the model produced by ZIL in unused production capacities . However, this plan failed even before complete production facilities could be built.

After Renault-Nissan took a stake in AwtoWAS, funds were available again, and parts of the Ока-2 project were used to develop the Lada Kalina City .
