Katzental is a district of the community Billigheim in the north of Baden-Württemberg .

Katzental is located in the Schefflenz valley between Billigheim and Schefflenz .

history

Katzental has been known in documents since the 11th century. It belonged to the domain of the Wimpfen estate , later as a pledge to Messrs. Sturmfeder von Oppenweiler . In 1362 the place came to Kurmainz at the behest of Emperor Charles IV and belonged to the Allfeld winery , later to the cheap home winery . With the cheap home winery, Katzental came to the Principality of Leiningen in 1803 and, from 1806, to the Grand Duchy of Baden . In 1939 there were 353 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 388.

On January 1, 1974, the union with Billigheim and Allfeld to form the new community Billigheim.

The blazon reads: In a half-split and split shield at the top front eight-spoke silver wheel in red, at the back silver and blue diagonally roughened, below in blue a red armored, red-tongued silver eagle.

The coat of arms reminds of the local authorities Kurmainz ( Mainzer Rad ), Kurpfalz ( Rauten ) and Leiningen ( Adler ).

Attractions

The center of the village is characterized by the Catholic Church from 1751. Immediately next to it was the historic “Zum Kreuz” inn, which was first mentioned in 1764. In January 2011 the building was demolished and replaced by a village square with a fountain.
