history

With interruptions mainly due to the Chola , the dynasties of the Pandyas (capital Madurai ) and the Pallavas (capital Kanchipuram ) ruled the region for a long time , but they often delegated the actual power to regional vassals. In the 14th century, Muslim rulers seized power, which then passed to the Hindu Vijayanagar empire.

The temple consists of a large, flat-roofed and closed on all sides vestibule ( mandapa ) and one of a building-like structure with curved tower " hood roof " and Kalasha -Vase excessive Cella ( garbhagriha ). While the outer walls of the temple are only slightly structured and decorated ( pilasters ), there are four Nandi bulls above the sanctuary area above a surrounding cornice with small windows ( kudus ) .
