background
On February 26, 2020, the NDR started the podcast “ Coronavirus Update ” with the head of virology at the Berlin Charité , Christian Drosten . The MDR then asked Alexander Kekulé, who had also already made public statements.
distribution
The podcast can be received on MDR radio via the MDR website, the ARD media library , YouTube , Apple Podcasts, Audio Now, Google Podcast and Spotify . In the podcasts for Apple platforms in Germany, it was temporarily in second place behind the NDR podcast “Coronavirus Update”. In a press release on April 22, 2020, the MDR stated that the podcast now had 5 million audio views, plus 1.3 million views on YouTube. For this reason, the podcast was initially extended until mid-May 2020. The podcast has been published three times a week since June, usually on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. A text version has been available for download since episode 62.
reception
According to the standards of science journalist Volker Stollorz , Kekulé is not as competent as Drosten, for example in an interview with Stephan Karkowsky on Radio Eins . Kekulé's databases do not contain any scientific publications on coronaviruses . He used the " authority as a professor skillfully [...] to express his own opinion ".
The Bavarian State Center for Political Education recommends the podcast as a "reliable source".
The podcast has been referred to in various media such as: B. at watson.de , Westdeutscher Zeitung , der Welt , Münchner Merkur and Focus Online .
