Kelenna David Azubuike (born December 16, 1983 in London , England ) is a British basketball player .
Azubuike participated in the 2005 draft to support his family after his father was imprisoned. He wasn't drafted, but made a few games for the Cleveland Cavaliers the preseason . The Cavaliers fired him at the end of the preseason and he had to play for the D-League team of the Fort Worth Flyers . He led the Flyers to the finals that they lost to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds . His good performance brought him to the Houston Rockets on August 4, 2006 , but they released him after two games of the preseason. He then played again for the Flyers, where he scored the most points of all D-League players and had the third best hit rate in three-point throws. On January 2nd, Azubuike was hired by the Golden State Warriors to alleviate the misery of injuries. A legend about the signing of Kelenna Azubuike says that Chris Mullin , the general manager of the Golden State Warriors, called the trainer Don Nelson and asked him if he liked Sambuca . After his answer "yes", Mullin signed on Azubuike. On July 7, 2007, Kelenna Azubuike's contract was extended due to his good performance. In the first 15 players of the 2007/08 season , he played an average of 31.5 minutes. On November 17, 2009, he ruptured the patellar tendon and missed the rest of the season. The following season he was traded to the New York Knicks and then released. Azubuike has not played a game since his hamstring tear. On March 23, 2012, he signed a contract with the Dallas Mavericks , but was first sent to the Texas Legends to get fit there. After the Mavs separated from Lamar Odom , Azubuike was brought into the active squad. During the summer break of 2012, Azubuike was transferred from the Mavericks to the Cleveland Cavaliers . For the Cavaliers he completed the preparation for the 2012/2013 season, but was then deleted from the squad in October 2012 and the contract between him and the Cavaliers was terminated by option.
