Ken Doubleday

Ken Leslie Doubleday (born February 14, 1926 - † June 8, 2014 in Geelong ) was an Australian hurdler . He began his career as a triple jumper and was also used in the 4-by-100 and 4-by-400-meter relay because of his sprinting strength .

Life

At the British Empire Games in Auckland in 1950 , he was eliminated over 440 yard hurdles in the semifinals.

In 1952 he was fifth over 110 m hurdles at the Olympic Games in Helsinki and reached the quarter-finals over 400 m hurdles . In the 4-by-100 and the 4-by-400-meter relay, he was eliminated with the Australian team in the preliminary run.

At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver in 1954 , he fell in the final over 120 yard hurdles and did not reach the goal. In 1956 he retired at the Olympic Games in Melbourne over 110 m hurdles in the preliminary run.

He was three times Australian champion over 120 yard hurdles (1954-1956), twice over 220 yard hurdles (1953, 1954) and 440 yard hurdles (1952, 1953) and once in the triple jump (1947).

Doubleday last lived in Werribee and died of a fall on June 8, 2014 at the age of 88 in a Geelong hospital.
