Kenneth Bron (born November 1, 1961 in Paramaribo , Suriname ) is a Surinamese singer . He releases music under the name Kenny B . Before becoming a musician, Bron served in the Surinamese military.

Childhood and youth

Kenneth Bron grew up in the Surinamese capital Paramaribo. His family belongs to Maroon descendants, which is why he was often marginalized and annoyed in his youth, motivated by racism. When Bron was eleven, his parents divorced and he went to boarding school. After graduating from school, Bron became the singer of his first band called Fransisco .

military

In 1980 , Bron joined the Surinamese army but continued to make music. During his time in the military, he met the Surinamese lawyer Chas Mijnals , who made it possible for Bron to study politics.

In 1986 Bron left the military and initially worked as an assistant director in his father's wood company. Due to the outbreak of civil war in Suriname, operations had to be closed. Bron was involved in the peace negotiations, which were successfully concluded in 1991 . In the same year he moved to the Netherlands and has not been active in politics since.

Career as a singer

Bron is based on reggae and dancehall music . Musically he is mainly influenced by Bob Marley . Until 2014 he published music in English , Surinamese and Aucan languages. Several of his titles were in the charts in Suriname, with A Sama he stayed at number one for three weeks.

At the beginning of 2015 Bron released a Dutch single for the first time under the name Kenny B with Als Je Gaat (German: If you go) . Bron achieved his breakthrough in Dutch with Parijs (German: Paris) . The title stayed at number one on the Dutch single charts from mid-April to early June 2015 .

In Flanders , the Dutch- or Flemish-speaking part of Belgium , Parijs achieved the highest ranking in 12th place in May 2015. Along with Suriname and the Netherlands, Bron has already performed in Belgium, Greece , Finland , Hungary and Germany .
