Kerstin Franke-Gneuss

Kerstin Franke-Gneuss , b. Gneuss, (born April 12, 1959 in Meißen ) is a German graphic artist , painter and installation artist. She lives and works in Dresden .

Life

Franke-Gneuss grew up in Weinböhla and passed the Abitur in Meißen in 1977. From 1975 to 1978 she completed an evening course at the Dresden University of Fine Arts with Ursula Rzodeczko, among others . From 1978 to 1984 he studied painting and graphics there. Siegfried Klotz and Günter Horlbeck were among her teachers here . Since 1984 she has been working freelance in Dresden.

Franke-Gneuss was a co-founder of the Dresden Secession 89 in 1989 . In 1993 she received a grant from the St. Wendel Art Collection Foundation. Since 1993, Franke-Gneuss objects have been in public spaces in Dresden and Chemnitz, among others. She has been working in a studio in the Künstlerhaus Dresden-Loschwitz since 1995 and has been employed in the Altana Gallery, University Collections Art + Technology of the TU Dresden since 2003 .

Franke-Gneuss works in a wide variety of techniques, with etchings "in all technically possible combinations" dominating. Her drypoint etchings and paintings, including mixed media, take her inspiration from nature. This is how “dark webs emerge which develop as fragments of what has been experienced from the white of the picture background.” Franke-Gneuss's works are always abstract. In 1994 she published the artist book Schattenrosen, a collection of etchings based on poems by Ingeborg Bachmann .

From the mid-1990s, Franke-Gneuss also created installations and works for public spaces, including a large rear altar window in 1991 for a new church in Altenberg . Light sculptures can be found on Gustav-Adolf-Platz in Dresden and on the Hellerau festival grounds. In January 2012 Franke-Gneuss won the competition for the artistic design of the new district court in Dresden with a work made of curved waves. The artwork IUS_In Gottes Hand , which adorns a wall surface along the main staircase and a wall on the first floor, was acquired by the Free State of Saxony for 70,000 euros.

In addition, light installations that were not permanently attached were created. Among other things, she created the light installation Schattenglut made of acrylic glass on the roof of the Semperoper rehearsal stage on the occasion of the premiere of the one-act opera Die Bassariden in the Semperoper in 1997 . In 1997, as part of the Mnemosyne im fluss '97 art campaign , her work Kronenwirbel was on view below the Prießnitz Bridge near the Dresden Deaconess Hospital . In 1999 she created the installation Treiblicht on the Ernemannturm of the Technical Collections Dresden with colored acrylic rods . In her work for public space, Franke-Gneuss is primarily concerned with “the modulation of light and shadow”, based on the graphic work. In 2011, her porcelain works could also be seen in the show Now to X / I.

Works by Franke-Gneuss are owned by the Dresden Kupferstichkabinett and the Erfurt Angermuseum , among others . Since 1989 her work See (1988) has been part of the collections of the Galerie Neue Meister .
