Franz Müllner and Khagendra Thapa Magar, 2011

Khagendra Thapa Magar (born October 14, 1992 - January 17, 2020 ) was the smallest man in the world from October 2010 to June 2011. His height was measured on the occasion of his 18th birthday and confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records . The Nepalese was 67.08 cm tall at the time and weighed 5.5 kg.

Life

At birth, Khagendra Thapa Magar weighed only 600 grams, according to his father, the fruit seller Rup Bahadur Thapa Magar. He learned to walk at the age of eight. His growth stopped when he was eleven years old. The reason for its small body size is a form of short stature ( primordial dwarfism ), which was known to about one hundred people in 2010. Because the right side of his body grew slower than his left, his posture was bent to one side. Both his father and mother, Dhana Maya, and his younger brother are of normal height. He died in hospital on January 17, 2020 at the age of 27 of complications from pneumonia. Since 2006 he lived in Pokhara .

Career

Before his 18th birthday, he was considered the smallest teenager in the world at 56 centimeters. In 2006, the then 14-year-old Khagendra, weighing 4.5 kilograms, was already the lightest person in the world in the Guinness Book of Records . In 2009 his size was given as 61 centimeters. Khagendra Thapa Magar took the record-holder title as the smallest man in the world when he came of age from the Colombian Edward Niño Hernández , who measures 70.21 centimeters and was named the smallest living man in the world just six weeks before Magar's birthday.

Magars successor as the smallest living man in the world was the Filipino Junrey Balawing (59.93 cm tall) on his 18th birthday on June 12, 2011 , who was replaced on February 26, 2012 by Chandra Bahadur Dangi (1939-2015), who At just 54.6 centimeters, it is considered to be the smallest person ever measured. Since Balawing is immobile, Khagendra Thapa Magar retained the title of the smallest living ambulatory man in the world. This went back to the Colombian Edward Niño Hernández after his death.
