Khaled Akasheh

Khaled Boutros Akasheh ( Arabic خالد بطرس عكشة Chalid Butrus Akascha , DMG Ḫālid Buṭrus ʿAkaša ; * December 15 , 1954 in Karak , Jordan ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and an expert on Islam .

Akasheh entered the Beit Jala seminary in 1966 . On June 30, 1978 he was ordained a priest there by the Jerusalem Auxiliary Bishop Neemeh Simaan . He then worked as a vicar in the Jordanian city ​​of Madaba . From 1981 he taught himself in Beit Jala. In 1994 he was appointed to the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue , and since 2003 he has been secretary of the Council's Commission for Relations with Islam .

In 2008 he was one of the Catholic delegation participants of the second seminar of the Catholic-Muslim Forum , which was set up after the open letter A common word between you and us . Without attracting public attention, he then tried to build a network with Muslim interlocutors for the Catholic Church. He participated in the dialogue between the Holy See and Al-Azhar University in Egypt . Al-Azhar University insisted on removing Akasheh from the delegation in 2011, and otherwise threatened to break off the dialogue. He also took part in the dialogue between the Vatican and the Organization for Islamic Culture and Communication ( Sāzmān-i Farhang wa-Irtibāṭāt-i Islāmī / Islamic Culture and Relations Organization ) of Tehran , Iran , which is part of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Leadership (Shhad) .
