Kiaeria (German Kropf-Gabelzahnmoose ) is a genus of deciduous mosses from the family Oncophoraceae . The genus is named after Franz Caspar Kiær (1835-1893), a Norwegian doctor and bryologist.

features

The mosses resemble small Dicranum species and, like them, form loose to dense cushions. The upright, 1 to 2 centimeter high (rarely higher) stems are sparsely rhizoid-tomentose below. The leaves are lanceolate, upright and protruding, sometimes sickle-shaped, the entire margins serrated to the tip of the leaf, with protruding leaf veins. The leaf cells are elongated and smooth at the base of the leaf, elongated to almost square and smooth or nipple-like in the upper part of the leaf. Leaf-wing cells are clearly differentiated.

The spore capsule on the 7 to 16 millimeter long seta is goose and more or less inclined, the capsule lid is beaked. The peristome teeth are divided to about the middle.

distribution

Kiaeria species are common in the northern hemisphere in the arctic and sub-alpine to alpine areas. They grow on silicate rock and on the ground.
