Kid Dynamite was an influential American melodic hardcore band from Philadelphia , which existed from 1997 to 2000 . Since 2005 there have been several reunion concerts.

history

The band was formed in 1997 in Philadelphia by Jason Shevchuk, Steve Farrell, Dan Yemin and Dave Wagenschutz . Dan Yemin had previously played with the melodic hardcore band Lifetime .

In 1998 the label Jade Tree Records released the first album of the same name. In many cases this album is considered an important milestone in hardcore. Steve Farrell left the band after a while and was replaced by Michael "Spider" Cotterman on bass. Among other things, the group was successful on tour with Sick of It All and Good Riddance during this time .

At the turn of the century, the second album Shorter, Faster, Louder was released, with which the band was often seen as the successor to Lifetime. Even before the record was released, the group broke up.

In 2003 the label Jade Tree Records released a compilation of rare songs and live recordings with Cheap Shots, Youth Anthems . Two years later, the DVD Four Years In One Gulp was another release by the band with many live recordings. There was a reunion concert in 2005 when the band gave a benefit concert in the traditional CBGB in New York . In 2009, Carry the Torch: A Tribute to Kid Dynamite was released, a tribute album on which various punk and hardcore bands cover songs by Kid Dynamite. On August 15, 2010, Kid Dynamite played a reunion concert at This Is Hardcore Fest at the Starlight Ballroom in Philadelphia.

In the course of the punk and hardcore festival Groezrock in Meerhout , Belgium , Kid Dynamite played their first ever European concerts on April 26th (pre-festival club show) and on April 27th 2013 (festival show).

style

The style of the group can be described as fast, melodic hardcore punk . Sometimes more poppy skatepunk influences can be heard, while other pieces by the band sound more like less melodic "classic" hardcore punk.

At Green Hell , the style of the band on the first album is described as follows:

" Harder, faster, but also melodic and groovy HC is offered, no more, but certainly no less." "
