history

Kiesdorf is a German town founded during the second phase of the German settlement in the east . Before that, however, there was already a Sorbian settlement on the site of today's Oberkiesdorf. The new place was probably created around the year 1200. The place was mentioned in a document in 1264 as Kysilingistorf and in 1285 as Kieselingistorf in the deed of mortgage of the St. Marienstern Monastery . In 1374, Niederkiesdorf was explicitly mentioned as teutunicum Kezelingisdorf ("German Kiesdorf").

In the 16th century Kieslingsdorf was divided into an upper and a lower village, after the two parts of the village already belonged to different parishes. It was not until 1904 that the two communities were reunited into one.

On January 1, 1994, the community joined the community of Schönau-Berzdorf ad Eigen.
