Space Invaders (Original title: Killer Klowns from Outer Space ) is an American science fiction - horror - comedy from the year 1988 . The film was produced by the Chiodo Brothers on a budget of $ 2,000,000. The premiere took place on May 27, 1988 in the USA. In Germany, the film did not come into cinemas and was marketed on VHS from November 30, 1988 .

Teenagers Mike and Debbie witness a meteor strike near their small town, Crescent Cove, California. As they approach curiously, they see a circus tent at the point of impact, which is populated by evil aliens that look like clowns . When these begin to kill and eat the population of the small town, initially nobody believes the teenagers. Finally, with the help of the police officers Hanson and Mooney, they manage to repel the invasion of the killer clowns .

- The age rating of the film was reduced from 18 to 12 years in March 2018 due to a re-examination by the FSK.
