Kim Chong-in (born July 7, 1940 in Siheung , Japanese Empire ) is a South Korean politician and former member of the Gukhoe .

Kim was an elected member of the National Assembly from 1981 to 1988, 1992 to 1994 and 2004 to 2008 via the party list. From 1989 to 1990 he served as Minister of Health and Social Affairs under President Roh Tae-woo .

Career

Before entering politics, Kim studied German at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and received his doctorate in economics from the University of Münster in 1972 . He was later a professor at Sogang University and chairman of the board of Kookmin Bank , the largest private bank in Korea.

Kim is believed to be the architect of later President Park Geun-hye's victorious campaign in the 2012 presidential election . Kim originally wanted to run as a candidate in the 2017 presidential election and left the Deobureo-minju party , of which he was interim chairman in 2016, but later supported Ahn Cheol-soo .

In 2020, in the run-up to the 2020 general election , he joined the newly formed Mirae-tonghap party to lead its election campaign. After the election defeat and the resignation of Hwang Kyo-ahn as party chairman of the MTP, he was appointed third interim party chairman after Shim Jae-chul and Joo Ho-young .

After North Korea blew up the joint liaison office in mid-June 2020, Kim demanded an official apology from Moon Jae-in for his supposedly wrong policy towards the north.
