The Spitalzentrum Biel (SZB) (fr. Center hospitalier Bienne ) is the public hospital in the Biel - Seeland - Bernese Jura region in Switzerland . It is located in Biel in the Beaumont district above the city . The bilingual central hospital treats around 74,000 patients each year. As an acute hospital, it offers extended basic medical care as well as various special areas. The SZB has a 24-hour emergency department and a children's clinic. The stroke unit is next to the University Hospital, the only one in the canton of Bern for stroke treatment by state of the art.
In 2002 the independent hospitals Regional Hospital Biel and Children's Hospital Wildermeth were merged to form the Biel Hospital Center . The Canton of Bern and the Wildermeth Children's Hospital Foundation hold a stake in the share capital. Colloquially the hospital is called Beaumont .

In 2017, the hospital had 237 beds (nine of them in the intensive care unit) and around 1,400 employees, who are spread over 997 full-time positions. 58,687 outpatients and 12,985 inpatients were treated.
Medical importance
As an acute hospital, the SZB offers extended basic medical care. In the interdisciplinary focus areas of women & children, tumor diseases, the musculoskeletal system and the heart, blood vessels and strokes, the SZB is also of national importance for the medical care of the population.

Children and adolescents up to the age of 16 receive medical care at the Wildermeth Children's Clinic. Pediatrics and pediatric surgery work closely together. This includes neonatology and a 24-hour service for children's anesthesia .
