Kinnaird is a Scottish town in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . It is located in the southeast of the traditional county of Perthshire about 13 kilometers northeast of the center of Perth and 16 kilometers west of the center of Dundee in the Braes of the Carse , the foothills of the Sidlaw Hills . The village lies at the end of a valley, extending to the up to the Firth of Tay -reaching level Carse of Gowrie open.

With Kinnaird (Atholl) there is another village of the same name in Perth and Kinross.

history

The story is linked to the Tower House Kinnaird Castle , which stands above the village in the Braes of the Carse. The four-story defense tower was built around 1500. As early as the 12th century, a tower house belonging to the Scottish Crown was located on the site. The current neo-Gothic parish church , the Kinnaird Parish Church , was built in 1815. The design for the Kinnaird Village School , built in 1834, was made by the Perth architect William Mackenzie .

Between 1831 and 1881 the population of Kinnaird fell from 461 to 260.

Kinnaird is connected to the road network by a secondary road. Of Edinburgh to Fraserburgh leading A90 runs about two kilometers south-east and can be reached after a short distance. The A94 (Perth– Forfar ) runs a few kilometers to the northwest . The regional Perth Airport is also located there .
