Kiphire is a district in the east of the northeast Indian state of Nagaland .

The area is 1130 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Kiphire .

population

According to the 2011 census, the Kiphire district has 74,004 inhabitants. With 65 inhabitants per square kilometer, the district is only sparsely populated. The district is rural. Of the 74,004 residents, 57,517 people (77.72%) live in rural areas and 16,487 people in urban communities.

The district of Kiphire belongs to the areas of India that are almost entirely populated by members of the "tribal population" ( scheduled tribes ). Among them (2011) were 71,429 people (96.52 percent of the district population). There is not a single Dalit ( scheduled castes ) in the district.

The population consists almost entirely of people who were born in the district. Of the residents, 71,274 people (96.31 percent of residents) were born in the district. A total of 1,111 people were born in other Indian states (including 384 people in Assam, 352 people in Bihar and 77 people in Manipur). Of the 92 foreign-born people, 44 are from Nepal and 37 are from Myanmar.

District population by language

The population of the Kiphire district is linguistically mixed. The four main languages ​​Sangtam, Yimchungre, Tikhir and Chirr account for almost 80% of the district's population. Yimchungre as a whole (Chirr, Tikhir, actual Yimchungre, other Yimchungre languages) is spoken by a total of 28,069 people (37.93 percent of the population). Sangtam dominates 3 of the 8 circles. Tikhir dominates the Circle Kiusam (93.81 percent of the population). In the Sitimi Sumi (Naga) circle. In the Circle Pungro, on the other hand, Yimchungre (54.69 percent of the population). Population of the district by confession

The Tibetan Burmese residents have converted almost entirely to Christianity in the past 100 years. The most important communities within Christianity are the Baptists, Presbyterians (Reformed), and Catholics. The Hindus and Muslims form small religious minorities and are mainly immigrants from other regions of India. The following table shows the exact religious composition of the population:

education

Thanks to significant efforts, literacy has risen sharply in recent decades. However, it is very low compared to the other districts of Nagaland state. In urban areas, seven out of eight people can read and write. In rural areas, only around 64 percent can read and write. The strong differences between the sexes and the urban / rural population are typical of Indian conditions.
