The Church of the Holy Great Martyr Pantaleon ( Serbian Црква Светог великомученика Пантелејмона Crkva Svetog velikomučenika Pantelejmona ) is a Serbian Orthodox branch church in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is located in the village of Dobrinja, which belongs to the Modriča municipality .

The church, built from 2004 to 2012, is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Pantaleon . It is a branch church of the Modriča I parish in the Modriča - Gradačac deanery of the Zvornik-Tuzla eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

location

The church is located in the center of Dobrinja, which has around 480 inhabitants. Dobrinja and the whole of Opština Modriča are in the Posavina region . The village of Dobrinja is located immediately south of the city limits of the municipal capital Modriča and is increasingly becoming its suburb.

history

Before the Bosnian War (1992–1995), the majority of Roman Catholic Bosnian Croats lived in the village of Dobrinja . During the war these were driven out by Serbs or had fled. Once again, after the end of the war, Serb refugees and displaced persons from a total of 17 Bosnian-Herzegovinian communities moved to the village.

The villagers asked for the blessing of the then bishop (episcopes) of the Zvornik-Tuzla Vasilije (Kačavenda) eparchy to approve the construction of a church in which all villagers could meet and celebrate the Holy Liturgy together.

As Ktitoren (founder) of the church all village residents of Dobrinja of the building committee at the head of Kosta Lazić apply, with their president. Mr. At the suggestion of Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda), Kosta Lazić was awarded the Order of St. King Milutin by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church for his efforts in building the Church of the Holy Great Martyrs Pantaleon.

The bishop gave his blessing. And construction of the church began on April 2, 2004. The church building project was designed by the architects Astra-Plan from the northern Bosnian town of Brčko . On September 14, 2008, the foundations of the church were inaugurated by Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda). And on October 28, 2012, after eight years of construction, the church was solemnly consecrated by Bishop Vasilije (Kačavenda).

At the inauguration of the church, Nedeljko Kovačević was appointed as church sponsor and Aleksa Ristić as iconostasis sponsor.

architecture

The single - nave cross-domed church was built in the Serbian-Byzantine style , with an altar - apse in the east, a round dome over the center of the nave at the intersection of the side arms of the church and a high church tower with a church bell and an entrance portal in the west.

The church was built from small bricks and has the dimensions 24.5 x 11 m. The church tower and the round dome were covered with sheet metal, the roof of the nave with tiles. Entrances to the church are on the west and north sides. The church has two silver crosses.

The Church of the Holy Great Martyrs Pantaleon is currently not painted with Byzantine frescoes. The iconostasis of walnut wood was in the workshop of Vitomir Marković from the village Ukrinica in the city Teslić carved. The icons on the iconostasis were painted in the workshop of Slobodan Janićijević from the central Serbian town of Jagodina .

Priest of the church

The first priest of the church was Bogdan Todić. The second priest who is still in office today is Siniša Lazić. Thanks to the tireless efforts of both priests, the church was built to the delight of all the villagers. Two other parish priests from the parish of Modriča Pero Tanacković and Goran Panjkov also serve in the church.
