Kuhlrade Church

The Protestant Church Kuhlrade is a half-timbered church from the 18th century in Kuhlrade, a district of the town of Marlow in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The church belongs to the provost Rostock Kirchenkreis Mecklenburg of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

location

The main road leads from the west in an easterly direction through the village. The church stands in the historic center south of the street on an elevated plot of land with a church cemetery that is not fenced in .

history

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1310. Two parish hooves appeared in a document dated April 16 , so there must have been a previous building at this time. It was a daughter church of the Marienkirche in Ribnitz . One of the five knights from Ribnitz, Johannes von Moltke, held the church patronage until 1389, when the Ribnitz monastery acquired the church in Kuhlrade. So far nothing is known about its further construction history.

It is certain that the parish inaugurated a new building in 1754 . In 1862 a new rectory was added. Only two years later the church was also renewed. In 1883 the church received a harmonium , which was restored in 1999. In 1899, craftsmen renewed the west gable of the church. After the end of the First World War , the residents put a memorial stone for the victims in the cemetery in 1920. In 1948 it was placed under protection by the State Office for Monument Protection. In 1956 the parish was able to purchase an organ . In 1970 craftsmen built a new morgue in the church cemetery. Beginning in 1993, the parish had the building renovated. First the church tower was repaired, then the rest of the structure. The work was successfully completed in 1999. In 2001 a new celebration hall was inaugurated.

Building description

West view

The structure was essentially built from wooden framework and the compartment was made with exposed brickwork . The choir has a three-sided conclusion. On the north and south of the choir wall there is a high, three-part window, while the end of the choir has no windows.

The nave has a rectangular floor plan. In the choir area there is one, in the further area of the nave there are two more windows that take up the shape of the choir windows. The south side is designed similarly. Between the choir window and the middle window is a small, rectangular extension that can be entered from the south through a double-winged door. It has a simple gable roof , as does the ship.

The western wall was built entirely from brick. In the center there is a pressed, segmented arched gate, above it an opening closed with masonry stones offset to the south. In the center above the portal in the gable is an ogival panel. This entire area must have been provided with a vestibule at an earlier time, as the construction seam on the roof shows. The west gable is provided with nine ogival panels . On the side are two pinnacles with an incorporated cross. Two more crosses can be found above the dazzling gable. There sits a wooden tower dome , which ends with a bent pyramid roof , tower ball and cross.

Furnishing

The church furnishings are simple and come from the time the church was built. In 1897 the parish received an altar and pulpit cladding made of green cloth. A harmonium has existed since 1883.

To the northeast of the building, a boulder with a memorial plaque commemorates the fallen from the First World War .
