The Church of St. Mary Queen of Peace and Unity ( Romanian Biserica Sfânta Maria Regina Păcii și a Unității ) is a Greek Catholic church in the III. District Elisabetin of the western Romanian city Timișoara ( German  Timişoara ). It is located in Strada Gheorghe Doja and is there between Parcul Carmen Sylva in the northwest and Piața Nicolae Bălcescu in the southeast.

history

After laying the foundation stone on November 21, 1999, construction work on the church began in May 2001. The ground floor of the church was consecrated on June 16, 2003, and services were held here regularly from December 2003.

The church consecration took place on May 25, 2008. Numerous ecclesiastical and secular dignitaries gathered for this event, including the Apostolic Nuncio Francisco-Javier Lozano , the Metropolitan of the Romanian Orthodox Church Nicolae Corneanu , the Greek Catholic Bishop of Lugoj Alexandru Mesian , the Roman Catholic bishop of the Timișoara diocese Martin Roos , the envoy of the parish Međugorje Francesco Rizzi , and the mayor of Timișoaras Gheorghe Ciuhandu .
