The Church of Sudwalde is a Protestant church in the Lower Saxony municipality of Sudwalde ( joint municipality of Schwaförden ).

description

According to the Dehio manual, the core of the early Gothic hall church from the 13th century has a recently closed choir . The medieval parts stand on boulder foundations and have slightly different window heights.

In 1880 it was extended by a yoke to the west and the tower according to plans by CW Hase . Since then, the three-bay nave has had a ribbed vault and there is a low round arch between the choir and the nave . Vault paintings (“Christ as Judge of the World ”, “Fall of Man ”), which are dated to the year 1501, were exposed in the choir yoke . At that time, the brick facade and the windows were also renewed. After this historical revision, the exterior of the church shows only Romanesque forms.

The altar , gallery and organ date from around 1880. The base of the chalice-shaped baptismal font , which dates from around 1500, was added. The pulpit , which is dated to 1577 and bears an inscription in Low German , was originally in Berne .
