Kirill Alexejewitsch Safronow ( Russian Кирилл Алексеевич Сафронов ; born February 26, 1981 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player .
Career
Kirill Safronow began his career in 1998 with SKA Saint Petersburg , where he played until 1999. In the 1999 NHL Entry Draft , the Phoenix Coyotes selected him in the first round in 19th place. He then went to North America and spent the 1999/2000 season with the Québec Remparts .
He then completed 35 NHL games for the Phoenix Coyotes and the Atlanta Thrashers . He spent most of his time in North America in the American Hockey League . In 2004 he returned to Russia to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl , which he left for Chimik Voskressensk during the 2004/05 season . At SKA Saint Petersburg , the Russian was again under contract from 2005 to 2010 - initially for three years in the Super League and from the 2008/09 season in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . For the 2010/11 season he joined league rivals Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk before he was committed to HK Sibir Novosibirsk in January 2011 within the KHL , for which he played until December 2012. Then he was under contract with HK Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk until November 2013 .
From February 2014 he played at HKm Zvolen in the Slovakian Extraliga before he was signed by Amur Khabarovsk in June 2014 .
International
With the Russian U20 national team , Kirill Safronov took part in the 1999 and 2000 World Junior Championships .
