Kirsti Oidekivi

Kirsti Oidekivi (née Kristin Väli ; temporarily married to Kirsti Krull ; born May 21, 1959 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian poet .

life and work

Kirsti Oidekivi was born as the daughter of the children's book author Heino Väli and the translator Silvi Väli . She completed her school education in Tallinn and published her first poems as a student in the same anthology as Doris Kareva . After that, however, there was a lengthy creative break, and her first book, which was awarded the Estonian Debut Prize, was not published until 1998. After that, the poet published a few more books, but overall she has a not too extensive work to show. Nevertheless, she can be counted as "part of the country's lyrical establishment".

The critics recognized early on in Oidekivi's poetry references to other poets such as Juhan Viiding , Indrek Hirv or Kalju Kruusa or the Chinese poetry. Your “word paintings” reminded various critics of the film The Pillow Book by Peter Greenaway .

Oidekivi has also translated from South Estonian, for example a collection of poems by Kauksi Ülle together with Aare Pilv .

From 1991 to 2008 she was married to the writer Hasso Krull . The poet Katrin Väli is her sister.
