Saku Petteri Müllenalanen (born May 29, 1994 in Tornio ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Jokerit in the Continental Hockey League since September 2019 . Before that, he mainly spent his career at Oulun Kärpät and was three times Finnish champion with the team .
Career
Mühlenalanen began his career at Oulun Kärpät . In 2010 he moved to the U18 team of local rivals Kiekko-Laser for a year , with whom he became champion in the II division of the B-Juniors, before returning to Oulu . There he first played one season in the SM-Sarja of the B-Juniors and from 2012 to 2014 in the Liiga, the top division of the country, the A-Juniors. In 2013, he was appointed to the All-Star Team as the best template provider. Then he was pulled in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round in a total of 125th position. However, he stayed with his home club and became Finnish A-Juniors runner-up with him in 2014.
At the same time, Mäenalanen made his debut for Oulun Kärpät in the SM-liiga in the 2013/14 season . In his first season in the top division of Finland, he came to 25 appearances and won the Finnish championship with his club . But he was also used on loan at the second division Jokipojat , for whom he appeared fifteen times. In the following season, the Finn continued to play for the team of Oulu in the Liiga and defended his title successfully, but was still well used on loan from other clubs: In addition to eight games at league rivals Pelicans he stood 17 times at Kajaanin Hokki in the second-rate mestis on the ice.
For the 2017/18 season, Müllenalanen increased his personal statistics significantly, scoring 46 points in 59 games and celebrating the third Finnish championship with Kärpät. As a result, Mänenalanen decided to move to North America and signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes from the National Hockey League (NHL) in May 2018 . The player rights to him acquired by the Nashville Predators in the NHL Entry Draft had already expired.
After a year in North America, in which he was used in roughly equal parts by the Hurricanes and their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers from the American Hockey League (AHL), the attacker returned to his Finnish homeland and joined the Jokerit in September 2019 from Helsinski.
International
Saku Muchtenalanen represented Finland at the world championships in the junior area only at the U20 World Cup in Malmö in 2014 . As the tournament's top scorer with seven goals from seven games, he was instrumental in winning the gold medal for the first time since 1998. He was also the third-best scorer of the tournament with eleven points behind his compatriot Teuvo Teräväinen and the Swede Filip Forsberg .
He made his debut for the Finnish national team at the 2018 World Cup , where he finished fifth with the team.
