98.8 Kiss FM is a private radio broadcaster from Berlin . The station describes itself as "The Beat of Berlin" and primarily plays hip-hop , pop and RnB . In 1995, Kiss FM was awarded the Viva Comet in the “Best Radio Station” category. In 2015, the station won the German Radio Prize in the “Best Comedy” category for the “Prenzlauer Berg News” series of articles by the two authors Philipp Volksmund and Jochen Drechsler. Kiss FM started on January 1st, 1993 with the slogan "Only Black Music". The studio is located in the building of the “ Das Schloss ” shopping center in Berlin-Steglitz. The responsible media authority is the MABB .

At the end of 2007, Christian Schalt (previously at Kronehit in Vienna) took over the position of managing director, which he held until 2014. In July 2009 Sebastian Voigt took over the program management. Together with the Berlin radio stations 94.3 rs2 and Berliner Rundfunk 91.4 , Kiss FM founded the subsidiary Radio Service Berlin in 2006 , which sees itself as a broadcast service company and offers news, music programs, and training. York Strempel took over the program direction in the summer of 2016.

Kiss Cup

Since 2008, 98.8 Kiss FM has organized the "Kiss Cup" annually, in which the station's presenters compete against each other in sporting disciplines, supported by celebrities and listeners. In 2008 the “Kiss Cup” took place in football and in 2009 in basketball in Berlin's Max-Schmeling-Halle . "The Kiss Cup 2010", as well as the following years, took place again in football. Facetalk

Controversy

In 2016, the station came under public criticism after the right-wing extremist rapper MaKss Damage gave a telephone interview on the program Facetalk.

Market shares

The FM transmission area includes Berlin and parts of Brandenburg . According to the media analysis, Kiss FM reaches 53,000 listeners (as of July 2020) in an average broadcast hour (Mon-Fri, 6 am-6 pm).

Transmitter seat

The studio was initially in an old bakery in Berlin-Neukölln . The current headquarters of 98.8 Kiss FM is in the building of the “ Das Schloss ” shopping center in Berlin-Steglitz , from where the Berliner Rundfunk 91.4 and 94.3 rs2 are broadcast.

Frequencies

At first, the station could only be heard on the cable frequency of 98.45 MHz. Kiss FM could be received via DAB + (digital radio) from August 1, 2011 to March 31, 2014 throughout Germany in the respective broadcasting areas on channel 5C.
