Kitcharao is a municipality in the province of Agusan del Norte on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines .
The municipality of Kitcharao is located in the north of the province of Agusan del Norte and borders the province of Surigao del Norte .
By passing Republic Act No. 3842 by the Congress of the Philippines on August 29, 1963, Kitcharao became an independent township. Kitcharao was previously part of the Jabonga township as a barrio .
Most of the residents of the municipality are Tagalogs , Ilongos , Warays , Cebuanos and Boholanos who have immigrated from Luzon and Visayas ; only a few residents are indigenous to the Mamanwa and Manobo ethnic groups .
In 2005 the barangays Crossing and Songkoy were newly created.
