Las Nieves

Las Nieves is a municipality in the province of Agusan del Norte on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines .

In April 1877, Father Urios reported the successful establishment of five villages along the Agusan River to Manila . In particular, these were the villages of Las Nieves, Remedios, Esperanza , Guadalope and San Luis , of which Las Nievas is the one that was founded first. The village is named after the patron saint Nuestra Señora de las Nieves of the mother of Jesus .

In 1940 Las Nieves became a parish of the Esperanza Municipality. Las Nieves became an independent municipality on June 25, 1963.

The inhabitants of the municipality belong to the ethnic groups of the Cebuanos , Boholanos and Agusanos . Tribesmen of the Higaonon and Manobo ethnic groups also live in Las Nieves.
