Tubay is a municipality in the province of Agusan del Norte on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines .
Tubay is on the east coast of Butuan Bay and borders the municipalities of Jabonga to the north, Santiago to the northeast and east, and the city of Cabadbaran to the east and south.
Tubay is named after the founder of Datu Tabay . The place is the second Spanish settlement in Agusan . Initially, the residents of the village settled in Ilihan, but the settlement was then relocated several times, first to the wilderness of Ilihan, then to Sitio Malubog, then to Tubay-tubay and Sabang. The latter was near the mouth of the Jabonga River and was affected by constant flooding and attacks by the Moros , which is why the settlement was moved to its current location, Pueblo Daan Lungsod .
Between 1898 and 1903 Tubay was independent for the first time, but in 1903 at the instigation of the Americans it was incorporated as a barrio of the township of Cabadbaran . The current municipality was created by breaking away from Cabadbaran on October 20, 1947.
