Aarhus Jazz Orchestra
The Aarhus Jazz Orchestra is a Danish Big Band of the Modern Jazz , of Aarhus operates from. The formation emerged from Klüver's Big Band in 2012 .
history
Jens Klüver founded a big band with young musicians in Aarhus in 1977, which initially functioned as Bred Ymer , but soon as Klüvers Big Band . Initially an amateur big band, they managed to develop a professional level and repeatedly toured Scandinavia with American or Scandinavian guest soloists such as Mulgrew Miller , John Scofield or Kurt Elling . The orchestra was led by the founder until 2012. The band, which recorded numerous albums, then took on the name Aarhus Jazz Orchestra ; it was initially directed by Lars Møller and currently has various guest conductors such as Kathrine Windfeld and Dafnis Prieto .
In 2001 Butch Lacy brought the orchestra to a work that he wrote to mark the 800th anniversary of Aarhus Cathedral . In 2012, the Danish composer and trumpeter Jakob Buchanan , who is a member of the big band, involved the orchestra in the performance of his Buchanan Requiem , the recording of which won the 2016 Danish Music Awards as Jazz Release of the Year.
