Toggenburg sound world

The Klangwelt Toggenburg is a foundation established in 2003 that conveys the lively musical tradition of Toggenburg in the " Klanghaus ", on the " Klangweg ", at sound festivals , in sound courses and in the " Klangschmiede " in Alt St. Johann . The Toggenburg Sound World was initiated by the Toggenburg musician and composer Peter Roth .

"Sound House"

The planned “sound house” on the Schwendisee above Wildhaus and Unterwasser forms the center of the “sound world”. The timber construction projected by the Zurich architects Meili & Peter will be characterized by excellent acoustics and will be available to musicians, singers and choirs for performances, rehearsals and courses. The sound house will be run by the Toggenburg Sound World Foundation, and the building will be owned by the Canton of St. Gallen .

The realization of the project was resinous. After five votes were missing in the St. Gallen Cantonal Council in 2016 for the first draft of the sound house, the concept was revised. On June 30, 2019, the citizens of St. Gallen only narrowly approved the building loan required for the second submission with 53.7% yes-votes. The opening of the "Klanghaus" is planned for 2023 Template: future / in 3 years.

"Sound Path"

" Chäserrugg peep" sound station

The "Klangweg" is a 7.5 kilometer long themed hiking trail and leads from Alp Sellamatt over the Iltios and around the Schwendisee to the Wildhauser Oberdorf . 27 sound sculptures are set up along the Höhenweg , with which sound can be experienced. The “Klangweg” attracts 40,000 hikers every year.

"Sound forge"

The sound forge is now housed in the former Alt St. Johann monastery mill.

The “Klangschmiede” has been housed in the “zur Mühle” building in Alt St. Johann since 2011. The stately late Baroque Toggenburg house dates back to 1787. The forge with a double dining room is on the ground floor . A water wheel drives the old machines such as the blacksmith hammer. Visitors can watch the bells forge at work. Sounds can be experienced in the various rooms on the upper floor. Since the summer of 2019, part of the “Klangschmiede” has been set up as a sound escape room , in which visitors spend an hour solving puzzles and tasks on the topics of sound, resonance and customs. Other rooms are used for sound courses and the office of the “Toggenburg Sound World”.

Sound festival

The sound festival takes place every two years between Ascension Day and Pentecost . It is held around the provost's office and in the Protestant church in Alt St. Johann . This festival with concerts, workshops and projects creates a connection between local and international artists from other cultures. Around 6000 people take part in the sound festival.
