Klaus-Jürgen Bremm

Klaus-Jürgen Bremm (born May 30, 1958 in Duisburg ) is a German military historian and journalist as well as an officer ( Lieutenant Colonel d. R.).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1977 in Prüm, Bremm joined the Bundeswehr as an army officer candidate . From 1978 to 1982 he studied business administration at the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg and graduated with a degree in business administration . At the same time he studied history at the University of Hamburg . He then served as a troop officer in the armored force , most recently as a company commander in Panzerbrigade 34 Koblenz. In 1989 he resigned as a captain , after several military exercises he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the reserve .

He then worked as a management consultant in Hamburg. Since 1996 he has been a freelance journalist (including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and specialist journals) and lecturer. In 2003 he started with Jürgen Angelow at the University of Potsdam with the historical dissertation “From the Chaussee to the Rail. Military strategy and railways in Prussia from 1833 to the campaign of 1866 ” to Dr. phil. for which he was awarded the Werner Hahlweg Prize for Military History and Defense Sciences (2nd prize) in 2004. From 2004 to 2010 he was a lecturer in modern history with a focus on military history at the University of Osnabrück . He has been working for RWM-Depesche magazine since 2011 .

He published mainly in the fields of technical and military history, but also other areas of history. In a review on Deutschlandradio Kultur , Bodo Morshäuser praised Bremm's book Propaganda in the First World War , in which Bremm compares the war propaganda in Germany with that of the Allies. His book Die Waffen-SS. Hitler's overestimated Praetorian was not recommended by Ralf Raths because the content was inadequate and the topic of possible overestimation is not clarified in the book.
