Arno Klaus Jürgen ("Kajott") Richter (born December 3, 1933 in Döbeln ; † November 2, 2005 in Dresden ) was a German traffic scientist and was one of the first scientists in the field of traffic econometrics . He was an expert in transportation and communications statistics .

Life

Richter was born the son of a master painter in Döbeln / Saxony. He attended elementary school and then the Lessing high school in his place of birth. From 1953 to 1956 he studied economics at the newly founded " Friedrich List " University of Transport in Dresden with a degree in economics. He then worked as a candidate for the higher service for the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the computing station of the Reichsbahndirektion Halle / Saale and also trained in railway operations service, among other things. a. to the dispatcher .

In 1957 he started working at the Dresden University of Transport, which ended in 1992 when it was closed. By 1961 Richter was a research assistant at the Institute of Transport Economics and Statistics and joined this time with the promotion of Doctor of Economics at Joachim Günther (transport expert) on a subject to sampling theory and its application in the detection of rail services from. After three years as a senior scientific assistant , he completed his habilitation in 1964 on the application of the input / output model to problems in freight transport . This was followed by a lectureship in transport economics and in 1967 the professorship with teaching assignment for statistics of transport and in 1972 the appointment as full professor for mathematical methods in economics .

From 1992 until his retirement in 2000 , Richter was professor of statistics and econometrics , especially transport statistics , at the Technical University of Dresden ( TU Dresden ). He played a key role in setting up the Institute for Economics and Transport at the Friedrich List Faculty of Transport Sciences .

On several occasions, Richter combined his teaching and research at the university with activities that extended beyond that, for example between 1962 and 1964 he was also an employee of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the data center in Dresden and, on their behalf, headed a working group of the International Union of Railways UIC in Paris. Guest professorships took him to the Moscow State University of Transport (MIIT) in 1977/78 and to the Szczecin University of Technology from 1992–2002 .

He held various academic positions at the University of Transport, such as dean , section director and dean of studies. As part of his professional activity, he has maintained contacts with scientific institutions in other European countries and China since the 1960s.

Richter published over 300 publications. His standard works on traffic econometrics and on optimization experienced numerous editions and belonged to the tools of students in German-speaking countries. He supervised over 50 doctorates and habilitations and wrote 70 reports on doctorates and 19 on habilitations.

Richter was active in an advisory capacity in committees and associations. So he was u. a. In 1990 he was elected founding chairman of the Saxony Regional Association of the German Transport Science Society ( DVWG ) and remained so until his death in 2005.

Richter retired in 2002. He continued to work scientifically until his death in 2005. a. in the Dresden consulting firm TCAC.

Richter was married to Elisabeth (née Breitkopf) for almost fifty years and had a son with her. His grave is in the Leubnitz-Neuostra cemetery in Dresden.
