Klaus-Peter Wegera

Klaus-Peter Wegera (born January 11, 1948 in Tann (Rhön) ) is a German German linguist and medievalist . He is a retired professor for ancient German studies ( language history and language variation) at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Life

Klaus-Peter Wegera studied German , pedagogy , philosophy and theology at the Philipps University in Marburg and at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He was born in 1977 with a thesis on the topic of Contrastive Grammar: East Hessian - Standard Language. A study of dialect-related language difficulties of schoolchildren using the example of the 'Fuldaer Land' with Werner Besch doing his doctorate. From 1976 to 1985 Wegera was a senior member of the research project "Grammar of Early New High German" under the direction of Werner Besch, Hugo Moser and Winfried Lenders, then he was assistant at Werner Besch's chair at Bonn University; There he completed his habilitation in 1984 with the work Flexion of the noun in Early New High German (1350–1700) . From 1985 to 1990 Wegera held a temporary professorship at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn . After a two-year DAAD guest professorship in Adana / Turkey, he was appointed to the chair of Ancient German I at the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1992 , which he held until his retirement in 2016. Wegera has held visiting professorships at foreign universities several times. In 2009 he was accepted into the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts . From 2010 to 2016 he represented the Union of the Academies of Sciences in the Council for German Spelling .

Wegera's main research areas are historical grammarography, the history of the German language, German dialectology and German as a foreign language . In addition, together with colleagues and his students, he wrote introductions to early New High German , the diachrony of the German language and Middle High German . Together with Oskar Reichmann , he edited the Early New High German Reading Book and an Early New High German Grammar . Together with Thomas Klein and Hans-Joachim Solms , he is developing a new Middle High German grammar based on manuscripts.

Awards

  • Wegera has been Membre d'honneur at the Luxembourg Institute Grand-Ducal , Section de linguistique, d'ethnologie et d'onomastique since 1994 .
