Klaus Burkhardt (born March 31, 1928 in Bürgel , Thuringia ; † February 4, 2001 in Bad Wörishofen ) was a German graphic artist , typographer , printer and graphic designer , known for his poster art .

life and work

In 1947, Klaus Burkhardt moved from Thuringia to Stuttgart . He trained as a typesetter and passed his master's examination in typography in 1952. In 1958 he co-founded the Rauls studio in Stuttgart. The studio later became Galerie Rauls and then Galerie Müller . Burkhardt designed and printed the invitation flyers for the gallery and organized the public relations work.

After 1958, Klaus Burkhardt was a typography teacher at the Graphic Arts School in Stuttgart .

Klaus Burkhardt had his first exhibition of oil paintings and prints in the reading room of the Ulm Museum Society in 1961. In 1964, Burkhardt's works were shown in the graphics department at documenta III in Kassel . At the beginning of his artistic career, Klaus Burkhardt worked as a painter for a short time . As a graphic artist, he has designed numerous posters, books and printed matter. He worked as a printer and was also influential in innovative typeface design. His works are part of numerous private and public collections at home and abroad, including in the Museum am Ostwall in Dortmund or in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam .
