Klaus Fischbach

Klaus Fischbach (born July 5, 1935 in Wallenborn ; † February 9, 2017 in Trier ) was a German church musician , cathedral music director , choir director , composer and music teacher .

Career

Klaus Fischbach studied at the Episcopal School of Church Music Trier and at the University of Music and Theater of the Saarland Catholic church music , composition and music education . Special studies in choral conducting and phonetics took him to cathedral music director Johannes Klassen (Trier), Willi Träder (Hanover), Eric Ericson (Stockholm), Marinus Vooberg (Hilversum) and Adolf Rüdinger (Munich). Furthermore, he studied the subject of the organ with the degree "concert qualification" with Paul Schneider (Saarbrücken) and Michael Schneider (Cologne). From 1961 to 1971 he was organist at the St.Johann Basilica in Saarbrücken. From 1971 to 1973 director of the music school of the city of Krefeld and was appointed cathedral music director in Trier in 1973. In addition to managing the cathedral choir, he was also responsible for the episcopal church music school of the Trier diocese . In 2000 he retired and was awarded the title of honorary professor by Jürgen Schreier, then Minister for Education, Culture and Science, for special musical merits . From 2003 to 2005, Klaus Fischbach was Bundeschormeister or Bundeschorleiter of the Saar-Sängerbund (now Saarland Choir Association) and in this role was responsible for the seminars for choir directors. To this day he directs the Klaus Fischbach Saarbrücken madrigal choir, which has won numerous awards at important European competitions. Klaus Fischbach is himself a juror for national and international choir competitions. His numerous, award-winning compositions are documented by radio and CD recordings.

Private

Klaus Fischbach was married to Maria Fischbach, who died after 54 years of marriage. Fischbach had a residence in Trier and in his place of birth, the Eifel village Wallenborn . One of his sons is the former cantor of the Basilica of St. Johann Saarbrücken and organist and church musician Klaus-Ewald Fischbach who died in 2008 .
