Klaus Müller (2010)

Klaus Müller (born August 10, 1944 in Ursprung / Erzgebirge ) is a German economist.

Career

Müller passed the Abitur in 1963 at the Extended High School in Stollberg (Ore Mountains). After studying financial economics and foreign trade , he received his doctorate in 1973 at the Berlin University of Economics on the economic evaluation of variants of long-term development using the example of the energy industry and completed his habilitation in 1978 on theories of income distribution at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . From 1972 to 1991 Müller taught at the economics section of the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz University of Technology ), from 1984 as professor for political economy. From 1991 he was a freelance lecturer for business administration and economics, and from 1997 to 2016 external lecturer for external and internal accounting at the TU Chemnitz. From 2000 to 2009 he headed the "Medium-Sized Economy" course at the Glauchau State Study Academy . Since 2009 he has been an external lecturer for economics there.

Müller's preferred research topics are the theories, history and politics of money, income distribution and employment, and the history of economic doctrines. His point of view is that of an orthodox Marxist . From this point of view he discusses the problems that Marx's political economy holds in store for capitalism. He contradicts Nobuo Okishio and Michael Heinrich , who try to refute the law that the rate of profit tends to fall . They say that the rate of profit must rise if the "cost criterion" is adhered to, that is, it is only accumulated if it means that "living labor decreases by more than the previous increase". True, the cost price profit rate would rise, according to Müller, but not Marx's "real" profit rate, where the surplus value is related to the total capital advanced. Müller ascertained critical capital turnover and surplus value rates for the explanation of the possible contradiction of the "cost price profit rate" and Marx's "capital advance profit rate". He considers the objection of the British economist Joan Robinson and others that the value composition of capital does not necessarily have to rise and the rate of profit to fall due to the fall in value per unit of constant capital is not sufficiently justified. Since the value of variable capital falls through the increase in productivity, the law of the tendency of the rate of profit to fall is logical and consistent as long as an increase in the technical composition of capital can be assumed. Unless the value per unit of constant capital falls so much more sharply than the value per unit of variable capital that the influence of the increasing technical composition on the value composition of capital is canceled out. Such differences in productivity in the production of means of production and consumer goods are not plausible. Müller rejects the " monetary value theory " of the " Neue Marx-Lektüre ". For him, the value form analysis is not a logical construct without practical significance, but also reflects the development of money from exchange in an empirically correct way. Müller's "presentation of the historical development of money and its preliminary stages with many concrete examples from several millennia and four earths is unique in this scope." ( Klaus Steinitz ) Müller differentiates himself from economists who say that the value of goods cannot be measured and shows how measurement using working time coefficients is possible in principle. He developed formulas to determine profit and distribution-neutral wage increases as well as profit-neutral price increases.

He has published more than 300 scientific and popular scientific articles in magazines and newspapers (2) (including in economics, IPW reports, technology, manufacturing technology and operations, Die Weltbühne , Das Argument , Z. Zeitschrift Marxistische Renewerung , WISU - Das Wirtschaftsstudium , Marxistische Blätter , Wirtschaftsdienst , Berliner Debatte Initial, Sozialismus), in the daily newspapers Neues Deutschland and Junge Welt , the weekly newspaper Jungle World , Das Blättchen and Ossietzky .
