Klaus Stephan

Klaus Stephan (born October 27, 1927 in Treptow (Rega) ; † April 15, 2002 ) was a German television journalist , presenter and author .

Life

From 1947 to 1951 Stephan studied German literature , English , newspaper and theater studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

His journalistic career was linked to Bayerischer Rundfunk for several decades , initially as a freelancer from 1950 to 1955, then as a foreign editor . In the 1960s he was the ARD Africa correspondent . From 1970 to 1976 he moderated the television magazine Report Munich . In 1978 Stephan was the first editor-in-chief and first moderator of the newly founded Tagesthemen . In 1982 he became the chief Southeast Europe correspondent for ARD. In 1984 he left the ARD and became program manager at Hoffmann und Campe- Verlag in Hamburg . Most recently he hosted the program Stephans Platz on Bayern2Radio from 1996 until his death .

Stephan was a CSU member for almost 10 years . He resigned in 1981 out of indignation at an article by Bayernkurier that accused the German radio and television stations of "years of manipulation". Stephan is also the author of several novels and non-fiction books on contemporary history and Africa .
