Klaus Wolff

Klaus Wolff (born December 4, 1935 in Sibiu / Transylvania , † December 20, 2019 ) was an Austrian dermatologist .

Life

After studying medicine at the University of Vienna , training in dermatology at the I. University Dermatology Clinic, and research work at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester , Minnesota , Klaus Wolff was appointed head of the Department of Experimental Dermatology at the University of Vienna Visiting professor at Harvard University , Boston , appointed full professor and head of the Department of Dermatology at Innsbruck University in 1976.

In 1981 he was appointed to the University of Vienna, where Klaus Wolff worked as a full professor and head of the Dermatological University Clinic. He took on an intensive teaching activity with the training of generations of medical students and specialists in dermatology. His research achievements, which led to the clarification of the pathomechanisms of skin diseases and the development of new therapies, are internationally recognized. Under his leadership, the Dermatological University Clinic Vienna achieved a ranking among the five best dermatological university clinics in the world. From October 2004 Klaus Wolff was retired and devoted himself to his patients and the books he edited.

In 1984 Wolff was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 2005, an American patron established the Klaus Wolff Scholarship, which enables young Austrian researchers to train at Harvard University .
