The Klesberger Weiher is located about 1 km northeast of the Steinau district of Klesberg on the county road 957 Ürzell - Klesberg - Hintersteinau. The pond itself has a size of 1.45 hectares and is located in the center of a depression, surrounded by agricultural areas that are mainly used as hay meadows and pastures.

In terms of nature, the Klesberger Weiher belongs to the Lower Vogelsberg, a ring that surrounds the High Vogelsberg and is a maximum of 20 km wide with flat basal ridges between 300 and 500  m above sea level. NN .

According to the historical map of the Electorate of Hesse from 1858, which is based on maps from 1851 and 1852, the Klesberger Weiher already existed in its present form at that time. The pond is probably much older. According to local experts, stories circulate among the population that people drowned in the pond 500 years ago.

The water with its adjacent areas is particularly important as a stepping stone for bird migration. In addition, the pond and its surroundings are the habitat of numerous botanical and zoological features.

According to surveys by NABU (Berressem & Kuprian 1997), 32 breeding bird species, 24 foraging and 18 migrating bird species with a total of 14 species on the Red List were found in the project area in 1995 and 1996. In addition, 8 amphibians, 4 reptiles and 4 endangered bat species (including small noctule bat and bearded bat) were observed.

Chapel at Klesberg

Chapel in Klesberg during the annual procession of the parish of Ulmbach (2005)

The Klesberg chapel is located directly at the entrance to the village, coming from Uerzell. The bell is rung by hand every day at 12 noon. The chapel is open to the public on Sundays and can be visited. The chapel was donated in 1486 by Kunigunde von Mörle "God Almighty to praise and honor, his adored mother, the highly praised Virgin Mary and also in honor of the 14 helpers in need. On the lintel you can read:" When you wander this stras - greet Mary nit unterlas ". The chapel was often owned by different people. As a result, it was Protestant during the Reformation under the monastery of Schlüchtern and abbot Lotichius . Only at the end of the Thirty Years' War was the small lordship of Uerzell bought back by contracts from the Fulda abbot Placidus von Droste In custom, the new owner's Catholic religion was immediately reintroduced. In today's chapel, at least the dimensions and walls of the founding building are likely to survive.

From 2000 to 2002 a lengthy and complicated renovation of the over 500 year old Marienkapelle and the consecration of the chapel by the auxiliary bishop Johannes Kapp took place.

The annual procession of the Ulmbach parish to the Klesberg has been documented in writing since 1774. Since then, the sexton for the chapel has been carried out continuously by the descendants of the Leibold family.
