Johannes Kapp (born May 14, 1929 in Burguffeln ; † September 22, 2018 in Kassel ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Fulda .

Life

Johannes Kapp, son of an estate inspector , grew up in Burguffeln near Hofgeismar . After attending the cathedral grammar school in Fulda in 1948, he entered the seminary . He studied philosophy at the Fulda Theological Faculty and theology at the University of Bonn . On April 3, 1954, he received through the Fulda Bishops John Baptist Dietz in Fulda Cathedral , the ordination . He was first as a clergyman assistant at the Bischöflichen Konvikt as well as a religion teacher at today's Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium . In 1963, Kapp became the successor of Alfons Maria Lins , pastor and from 1971 dean in Bad Orb . In 1975 he was elected to the cathedral capital and became the regens of the episcopal seminary in Fulda .

On July 8, 1976 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Fulda and titular bishop of Melzi . The episcopal ordination received his Bishop Eduard Schick on 12 September 1976, the Great Cathedral in Fulda. Co-consecrators were the Paderborn auxiliary bishop and later cardinal Paul Josef Cordes as well as the Hildesheim auxiliary bishop Heinrich Machens . His motto was Gaudium Domini fortitudo nostra - The joy in the Lord is our strength .

In 1977 he was appointed episcopal vicar for permanent deacons and at the same time appointed as personnel officer for priests and permanent deacons. In 1980 he became cathedral dean and until 1983 was in charge of the new personnel department in the vicariate general. In addition, initiated the extensive restoration work in the Fulda cathedral church . In 1983 he became dean of the cathedral chapter . In 1989 he was the initiator of the founding of the Fuldaer Mädchenkantorei and Domsingknaben. He was a member of the commission at the German Bishops' Conference and commissioner for the Regency Conference and for the pastoral ministry.

After the death of Archbishop Johannes Dyba , Johannes Kapp was diocesan administrator in 2000/2001 . On July 13, 2004, his age-related resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II . It followed him in the office of Karlheinz Diez .

Kapp was chairman of the board of trustees for the Winfried Prize . He had been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Bavaria Bonn in the CV since 1950 .
