Karlheinz Diez (born February 20, 1954 in Horbach ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman, auxiliary bishop in Fulda and episcopal vicar for the liturgy.

Life

Karlheinz Diez was born on February 20, 1954 in Horbach as the eldest of three sons of Raymund and Herta Diez. He completed his high school at the Progymnasium in Freigericht-Somborn and then as a convector at the Domgymnasium in Fulda . After graduating from high school in 1972, he entered the Fulda seminary and continued his education in 1973 at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome . There he received the deacon ordination from the hands of the Fulda bishop Eduard Schick on March 19, 1977 . On October 10 of the following year he received the sacrament of ordination also in Rome from the Archbishop of Esztergom , László Cardinal Lékai . From 1979 to 1981 he worked as a chaplain in the parish of St. Marien in Kassel .

He then began his doctoral studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , which he in 1985 with a thesis on the ecclesiology of Peter Canisius , entitled "Christ and his Church" for a doctor of theology doctorate was. Then Diez began working on his habilitation thesis, but was also entrusted with tasks in the diocese of Fulda. From 1985 to 2000 he was at the side of the now retired Bishop Eduard Schick as a staff member. From 1989 to 2000 he worked as a sub-rain at the Fulda seminary. In 2001/2002 he was elected Vice-Rector by the Faculty Conference of the Fulda Theological Faculty . Bishop Heinz Josef Algermissen appointed him full professor for dogmatics, dogma history and ecumenical theology in 2002. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Chaplain to His Holiness (Monsignor) in recognition of his services in August of that year .

On July 13th, 2004 he was appointed titular bishop of Villa Regis and auxiliary bishop in Fulda by Pope John Paul II . On September 26th, 2004 he received the episcopal ordination in Fulda Cathedral by Bishop Heinz Josef Algermissen . Co- consecrators were the auxiliary bishop emeritus Johannes Kapp from Fulda and the bishop of Copenhagen , Czeslaw Kozon .

Karlheinz Diez is a member of the Faith Commission , the Commission on Marriage and Family, and the Sub-Commission for Interreligious Dialogue (the World Church Commission (X) ) of the German Bishops' Conference .

After Pope Francis accepted the resignation offered by Bishop Heinz Josef Algermissen , the cathedral chapter elected Diez as diocesan administrator on June 9, 2018 . On March 31, 2019, Bishop Michael Gerber appointed him alongside the office of auxiliary bishop as episcopal vicar for the liturgy.
