World climbing championship 2001
The 2001 World Climbing Championships are the names of the World Climbing Championships in Winterthur , Switzerland , which will be held from September 5 to 8, 2001 . In addition to difficulty and speed climbing , the bouldering discipline was on the program for the first time at this World Cup .
organization
A budget of CHF 600,000 was available for the World Cup and was organized by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). Over 200 athletes from 25 nations competed. Around 3,000 spectators were present at the final on Saturday.
venue
Originally the competitions were supposed to take place as part of the state exhibition Expo in Biel , but since this was postponed by a year, the competitions were moved to Winterthur. One of the reasons for choosing Winterthur was that the major event was not to be held in the periphery, but as close as possible to the population.
The competitions were held in Hall 53 in the Sulzer area , the former Sulzer foundry hall was ideally suited for this purpose due to its size. The 2001 World Championships were the first climbing world championships to be held in an old industrial hall. The neighboring trend sports hall, Block 37, served as an isolation zone for the athletes.
program
The opening show took place on Wednesday, September 5th. The qualifying competitions in speed climbing and the quarter-finals in difficulty climbing were held on Thursday. The qualification in bouldering and the semi-finals in difficulty climbing followed on Friday. On Saturday, September 8th, the decisive final rounds took place.
