The Klien is a 408.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Eichsfeld district in northwest Thuringia .

Geographical location

It extends in a northeast-southwest direction west of the federal highway 247 directly between Worbis and Breitenbach in Eichsfeld. The Klien is part of the Elbe-Weser watershed southwest of the Ohm Mountains between the Eichsfelder Kessel in the east and the hilly landscape of the middle Eichsfeld in the west. To the north are the sources of Wipper and Hahle and the southwestern part of the mountain belongs to the Leine catchment area .

Nature and geology

The mountain consists mainly of Upper Muschelkalk and is part of the Worbiser Graben within the Ohmgebirgs Graben Zone . It was initially created by sinking the fault zone in the Triassic rock layers and subsequent removal of the shell limestone down to the layers of the red sandstone in the area. This becomes clear from a deep cut along the new route of the B247 on the outskirts of Worbis.

While the steeper slopes are mostly forested, the flatter slopes are used for agriculture.
