Kline Township is a township in Schuylkill County in the state of Pennsylvania in the USA .
geography
The place is 10 kilometers north of Tamaqua and eight kilometers south of Hazleton . The closest major town is Wilkes-Barre , which is about 40 kilometers to the north. The Interstate 81 highway runs right through Kline Township.
history
The name of the place was chosen in 1873 in honor of the judge Jacob Kline. Due to the abundance of anthracite coal deposits , coal was mined as early as 1856, i.e. before it was officially founded. An important employer is still the Northeastern Power Company today, which operates a cogeneration plant in Kline Township that is fired with local coal . It is planned to expand the plant with a solar system .
Demographic data
In 2010 a population of 1438 people was determined. 30.1% of today's inhabitants are of Italian origin. Other significant immigrant groups during the early days of the town came from Poland ( 22.1%) , Ireland ( 9.3%) , Slovakia ( 8.9%) and Germany (8.6%).
